The Benefits of Selling a Used Car Online
When a car owner decides that “I need to sell my car”, they must then decide what process they want to use to dispose of the car. In order to evaluate the different options, the advantages and disadvantages need to be considered carefully. Selling via the internet is one option that needs to be considered.
The positive points of selling online are numerous and can prove to be a convenient way to sell a car. Being able to undertake the process of selling a car from home can be especially handy for those that have busy work schedules. It allows the transaction of selling a car to be made easier by negating much of the work that can come with a private sale.
Selling a car online will lead to it being brought to the attention of a greater number of people, which can help to achieve a sale more quickly. Similarly, when a company that specialises in buying used cars is utilised, sellers can be assured of a quick transaction and a professional service.
Online car selling also takes away much of the hassle relating to car valuation and the haggling process, with cash being instantly available rather than having to wait for a cheque to clear.
Problems with a Car Battery
You might not know it but problems with batteries are amongst the most common problems to affect car owners, with AA patrols being called out to more than 500,000 battery breakdowns in 2010 alone. Most people will think of batteries causing problems in the winter months but the fact is that they can die at any time of the year.
The annoying thing is that most battery problems can be avoided and regular service should eliminate any problems occurring. However, there are a few steps you can take to help extend the life and reliability of your battery.
• Keep an eye on the age of your battery. If it is more than five years old and you find that you are having trouble starting your car, get your battery replaced before it is too late and you find yourself needing a roadside recovery.
• Keeping your battery correctly charged is important. If you find that you are only driving short distances or do not use your car for a long period, it is likely that your battery is not receiving the amount of charge that it needs to operate at its optimum. If this were the case, it would be an idea to invest in an intelligent charger that can be connected to the battery and help to prolong its life.
• Make sure everything electrical is switched off when you park your car.
• With all the electrical off, dip the clutch when starting a cold car, as this can reduce the load on a battery, especially when it is cold.
Using these tips should help preserve the life of your battery, or, at the very least, avoid leaving you stranded and in need of rescue.
Part Exchange Cars
If you are shopping around for a new car, have you considered part exchanging your old one? This can often work out to be the simplest and most cost effective deal, as well as giving you access to brand new motors that you may have thought were out of reach. Online there are plenty of resources to go about the part exchange of your car. Start by researching all the basics, such as how to value your car and assess its true worth. Any reputable site will tell you that you need to have all your paperwork and documentation up to date and ready to go, and a full service history will also be a hugely positive factor in selling on your car.
It might be worth having a car service and doing some maintenance before you decide to go ahead with a part exchange, as this will maximise any potential profits. As a rule of thumb, the higher the value of your car or if it is a prestige or luxury model, then the more worthwhile it will be getting any minor repairs done in order to recoup the most profit. Whatever make or model you have, it is always worth giving it a general clean and sprucing up before offering it on the market.
If you are looking to part exchange your car, then an online site could work to your advantage as some will accept your car whatever the condition, with or without an MOT. But keep in mind that the better your car is presented, the greater the options are when selecting a new car. If you do decide to choose a new car online, you will also be able to book a test drive in your preferred model at your convenience.
Quick Ways to Sell Your Used Car
Many cars are now designed to last for a decade or longer. This means that the used car market is bigger than ever, as people pass on their cars to new owners looking for a cheaper deal than buying a totally new car. With so many buyers and sellers in the market, there can be a lot of unexpected competition for the unwary seller. Hanging on to a used car that won’t sell is no good if you need the money to pay for a new model – here are some tips to help you increase the value you get for your car, and help you to sell it faster.
Be sure to set a good price for your car. This will attract a good number of sellers while still helping you to make money from the sale. If you really want to sell fast, then consider lowering the price. When selling online, pictures are very helpful. Clean up the car and take pictures for potential buyers to view. Including pictures of any superficial damage can help to speed up the process by reducing queries about condition.
Auction websites and online car dealers are the quickest ways to sell a used car online. Auctions have a time limit, and often have a large number of people browsing them – this ensures a buyer by the time the auction ends. A car dealer will allow you to sell the car straight away, so if you are happy with the price this can be a very quick method.
Creating a car Maintenance Schedule
Making sure your car is maintained properly is part of responsible ownership. By creating a balanced schedule for that maintenance, it is easier to prevent little issues from turning into big ones that can cost a great deal of money. Fortunately, creating a schedule can be managed with relative ease.
Start by identifying all the tasks that must be managed as part of the schedule. This includes tasks the owner can do at home as well as car servicing that must be done by a professional. With the list of tasks assembled, determine how often each task must be done over the course of the year. Data obtained from the owner’s manual will help in setting the frequency for each item to be dealt with.
Once the schedule is completed, follow it without fail. Doing so means fewer incidences of car repairs throughout the year, while also enjoying more reliable transportation. Following the schedule also means less stress on the household budget, something that just about any car owner will find enjoyable.
Benefits of Washing a car by Hand
While car washes are convenient and often do a credible job, taking some time to wash the car by hand now and then is a good idea. Whether the owner does the job at home or enlists the aid of a cleaning service that relies on non-automated processes, the benefits of this approach are easily realised.
One major advantage of washing cars by hand is the ability to get into all the nooks and crannies that automated methods usually don’t reach. Cleaning under the bumpers, along door jambs and other hard to reach places means the vehicle is truly clean, rather than appearing to be clean at first glance.
Another benefit is that the owner can use cleaning supplies of his or her choice. This means securing sponges and brushes that are less likely to damage the paint job, leaving tiny scratches in the finish. The owner can also purchase cleaning products designed to provide the best results while also taking the least toll on the surfaces that are cleaned.
Successfully Selling a Used Volvo Online
Selling online is by far the best way to go for a person looking to sell their used Volvo car or vehicle for the best price and with the quickest turnover. There are plenty of places to sell online – these range from simple listings websites where people can compose their own text and picture advertisement for people in their local region, to auction websites where buyers compete to get the best deal, to large car dealerships that will take the used Volvo off your hands very quickly.
The first question to ask is ‘how do I value my Volvo?’ This is the most important part, and dictates how you will go about selling. Use an online valuation tool to get a quick estimate, or browse websites where second hand Volvos have been sold, and get an overall impression. Dealerships will take the car quickly, but will pay a slightly lower price than you might obtain from a direct sale – decide if you need the cash for cars quickly, or if you are happy to wait longer but possibly get a better price.
The Dreaded MOT
The MOT abbreviation comes from the Ministry of Transport test first brought into being in 1960 in order to deem if vehicles over a certain age were suitable to be driven on British public highways. Now the Ministry of Transport has become the Department for Transport, the MOT name has stuck.
Often viewed by motorists as an exam one is bound to fail, the MOT test has, incredibly, been around for over 50 years. Originally designed to test the safety and roadworthiness of all vehicles over ten years old the MOT test now applies to all vehicles over three years of age. While certain vehicles, for example tractors, are exempt from MOT testing, all passenger vehicles that have over nine seats must be tested annually regardless of age. The remit of the MOT has now evolved to include an exhaust emission test with the acceptable standard dependent upon the age of the vehicle.
Although nationally recognised as the bugbear of the motorist, the MOT does give peace of mind about a vehicle’s safety and the driver may feel confident in using the car safely for another year. This is especially true in the case of older vehicles.
If a car fails the test the reason for that failure is clearly explained and the owner is given a period of time to have the fault corrected before retesting. For this reason alone it is always a good idea to schedule the MOT a few days before the expiry date of the previous certificate, leaving a margin for any work that may require to be carried out.
All MOT testing stations display the distinctive three-triangle logo in blue. Nowadays the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) issues the MOT certificate.
Summer Servicing
A quick do-it-yourself summer service could save hundreds of pounds in expensive car repairs so it is wise to spend a little time checking the following points at the onset of the summer season:
• Summer weather is notorious for causing a car battery to overcharge due to a speeding up of the chemical reaction. Keep battery terminals clean and rust-free. It is a good idea to remove the battery cables and clean the terminal points. Ensure the battery is fully secure.
• Check the engine coolant system and top up if required.
• Check the fan. The best way to do this is by turning the heater on cold and run the car (parked) for approximately five minutes. Check the fan has started working automatically.
• Check tyres and pressure. Punctures are very common in the summer months so ensure tyres are in good condition.
• Check oil level and top up if necessary.
• Check windscreen wiper fluid level.
• The glare of the sun can be made hazardous by a dirty windscreen so ensure the vehicle is kept clean and all windows and mirrors clear.
Selling a Honda
If I wanted to sell my Honda car, how would I go about it? By doing some simple research to avoid the common mistakes and pitfalls that can affect car sellers. First, ascertain the condition of the Honda, and ensure that it is presented properly for sale. This means a clean and tidy car with up to date documents and ideally a full service history. Hondas can be sold cheap, but hybrid models remain popular, and to ensure you get the full price your second-hand Honda deserves, find out what it is worth before you sell it. Make sure the price is right and then consider your selling options.
You may wish to part exchange your Honda at a dealership. This may not mean that you will get the highest price but it is a simple transaction that gives you the option to upgrade for very little trouble. Whoever you decide to sell it to, always prepare your Honda for viewings and possible test drives. Take care to present full documentation and service history for your used Honda, as this is an essential part of selling. Do not attempt to mislead buyers, but give an honest assessment of your Honda when preparing an advert. Include as much information as possible, including the make and model, year, registration number and engine capacity, as well as any details such as how much remains on the MOT. Finally, you should price the Honda for a realistic sale and get an independent car valuation quote.
