Thinking of filming your racing exploits and then publishing on YouTube? Think again. A teenager from Suffolk recently found out what dangerous driving can do for your street cred. His two minute film attracted the attention of the law. The film showed the teenager racing at speeds up to 130mph and was found by police after an anonymous email tip-off.
The teenager will be sentenced next month . Let’s hope this is a driving lesson well learnt.
Don’t miss the opening of the international historic motorsport show in coventry at Stoneleigh Park in coventry on Friday 14th to Sunday the 16th March. Is it better to use your own car on a race track or perhaps hire a sports car for the day? There are many online racetrack organisers offering driving experience vouchers. Circuits are located throughout the UK and in Europe. Some offer the driving experience of a ferrari or even a tank!
Here at Race Systems we would recommend using one of the track day organisers cars rather than your own, unless of course you really need to test your own car out. The biggest reason for this of course is that you won’t damage your own vehicle and it’s much better putting a real sports car through its paces, rather than a car you use for everyday driving.
We all may think that we are experienced drivers and can handle any situation, but there is one thing that no one really prepares for and is rarely experienced. There are times when the road can be icy or greasy and we all slow down and grip hold of the steering wheel expecting for the car to lose control, but what do you do if you really do lose control at speed and go into a full skid?
You’d hope that if you did start skidding that your natural instincts may set in and the words of your driving instructor years ago may start to echo … but in reality it is a very dangerous situation to be in. There are also different techniques that need to be used to safely regain control when you are in a skid. The ideal way to learn the control techniques is to book yourself into a skid pan experience session that are held all over the country.
During a skid pan experience you will normally be given a briefing to the experience before being let out onto the track. The skid pans are normally part of old air strips so that you have a large area of tarmac for practicing. The skid pan car that you will be taking to the wheel of, are specially adapted with a safety frame that sits around the car. You will be put through your paces and introduced to the various situations where you could encounter a skid and be taught how to recover. These skid pan experiences are meant to be enjoyable but at the same time are teaching you valuable car safety lessons.
